Synopsis
This work has been thoroughly revised in accordance with the
requirements of BS 8110. The principal feature of this publication
is the collection of 200 full-page tables and charts, which
enables engineers to produce rapid and efficient concrete designs
conforming with current British Standards and Codes of Practice.
After a general introduction, safety factors, loads and pressures
are discussed. Details are given of the analysis of structures
ranging from single-span beams and cantilevers to complete
multistorey multibay framed structures and arches. The materials
required for concrete construction are next considered and
information is provided on the relevant Standards and Codes,
together with data on permissible stresses, etc. The major section
of the handbook presents detailed information concerning the
design of various types of reinforced concrete elements according
to all current design methods, and the use of such elements in
such structures as building, bridges, culverts, subways, roads,
containers, tanks, bunkers, silos, retaining walls, foundations,
piled structures, wharves and jetties.
